We have a bigger purpose…

Electricity powers innovation, progress and growth – helping individuals and communities achieve their potential. And here at Tri-State, we get to help make that happen. We’re fortunate to have a team whose skills, perspective and contributions enable us deliver on our mission – providing reliable, affordable, responsible electricity.

But we can’t do it alone. Our family of not-for-profit electric cooperatives leverages our combined resources and knowledge – giving us the stability we need to succeed when it counts. We work through challenges together and find the creative solutions that help us adapt to the changing marketplace we’re in.

YOU can help us fulfill our purpose

Your next career move – we believe it should always be a win-win for you and your employer. For our part, we’ve built our organization on a stable foundation, but with the flexibility to grow and lead change in our industry. You can show up to work knowing you’re valued. At the most basic level, our pay and benefits reflect that value, but we’re also committed to your growth, offering the training and development opportunities that support your progress.

What do we ask of you? Embrace our cooperative way of doing business. Share knowledge, collaborate, ask the hard questions, work safely, look out for your colleagues and keep pushing us forward. Together we’ll set the direction for the future of electricity.

Collaboration

There's a strength that comes from differing backgrounds, unique perspectives, and the creative solutions they generate together. Our industry is changing, and we can only grow and respond when we're open to learning from one another - sharing the perspectives that make us unique. Asking "what if we tried it this way?"

Our workforce is also changing - we've had the great privilege of working with our longstanding employees whose dedication to our mission has taken them through an entire career. And as we search for the next wave of power players, we're excited for the ways they'll help keep pushing us forward. Finding new ways to do our jobs even better - more efficiently, safer, or with a new perspective.

Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

As Tri-State moves towards a sustainable future, we are also working toward a diverse, equal, and inclusive culture for our current and future employees. We are committed to providing a respectful, safe, and welcoming atmosphere where all employees can have their unique ideas and experiences recognized. As leaders who make an impact in our communities, we at Tri-State must celebrate a collaborative, inclusive, creative, and diverse workforce that truly embodies the cooperative spirit.

We invest in you

Our co-op principles encourage life-long learning. We offer opportunities for continued on-the-job training, tuition reimbursement, apprenticeships and summer internships.

Our apprentice program develops candidates into productive journey-level employees within the electric utility industry. Apprentices are selected for specific job openings, and their training is tailored to that role. The apprenticeship programs include self-study modules, online instruction, classroom training, and on-the-job training. We offer a variety of apprentice programs, including and not limited to:

  • Line technicians
  • Substation and apparatus technicians
  • Telecommunications technicians
  • Vehicle mechanics
  • Combined cycle technicians/operators

Each apprenticeship has specific requirements for entry. More hiring requirements are detailed in open job positions. We recommend using Safari or Explorer as a browser.

Put your knowledge to work

When you’re ready to make the leap from learning to doing, it’s time for an internship at Tri-State. Get hands-on education while contributing alongside the teams who power the rural West.

Our intern program occurs in the summer and is targeted at college students, with the idea of letting them get hands-on job experience in their specific field of study. Opportunities vary by year, and may be in the areas of Generation, Transmission, Accounting, Finance, Communications, Energy Markets, Engineering, Environmental or other departments.

What our interns say

“I saw and learned more about the energy industry in my time here than it’s possible to learn in the classroom.”

“Working at Craig Station was incredible. Seeing everything through the lens of real world experience was great.”

Service is a common thread

We are proud to have a strong representation of veterans here at Tri-State: individuals with diverse skills, driven by a true spirit of service. If your career path takes you from the military to the energy industry, you’ll find you’re in good company. United behind a common cause, our teams support each other and work together to deliver on our mission.

As a member of the Center for Energy Workforce Development, we participate in the Troops to Energy Jobs initiative. Additionally, each year we participate in industry panels, job fairs and military networking events, highlighting the opportunities for veterans to make their next career move into the energy industry.
