Job Description:

Responsible for managing the CAD (Computer Aided Design) Systems and Drawing Control functions in support of enterprise CAD and Drawing Control requirements. Develops and administers CAD, Drawing Control, document management, and imaging programs and processes. Provides administrative guidance and technical support to CAD specialists, engineers, designers, technicians, consultants and others on established CAD procedures and drawing production.

CAD Systems Manager

Hiring Salary Range: $100,000-$135,000

Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and administer CAD, Drawing Control, document management, and imaging programs and processes.

  • Provide administrative guidance and technical support to CAD specialists, engineers, designers, technicians, consultants, and others on established CAD procedures and drawing production.

  • Provide administrative guidance and technical support to Drawing Control personnel on reprographic equipment and processes.

  • Provide annual CAD system hardware and software purchasing recommendations and specifications to IT group.

  • Perform routine maintenance and upgrades of CAD software and reprographic equipment.

  • Establish a CAD training program including enterprise level user forums.

  • Perform as CAD liaison for Tri-State Enterprise. Coordinate CAD support for departments outside Engineering and Construction.

  • Ability to meet deadlines for the delivery of Bid, Construction and Record Drawing Sets.

  • Identify latest / emerging industry trends in CAD or Modeling technologies, recommend to functional managers potential latest technology solutions, and integrate selected solutions.

  • Develop standards and procedures for CAD Systems and Drawing Control.

  • Establish, monitor, and maintain accurate schedules for CAD Systems and Drawing Control.

  • Develop best practice and standard operating procedures.

  • Prepare and administer the capital and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) budget for CAD Systems and Drawing Control.

  • Administer the transmission reliability and compliance requirements for CAD Systems and Drawing Control as defined by NERC / WECC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation/Western Electricity Coordinating Council).

  • Recommend hiring, including consultant services, as needed.

  • Because Tri-State is an electric utility with continuous service obligations to its customers, regular, reliable, and predictable performance of the essential functions and responsibilities is an essential function of the job.

  • Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.

Qualifications:

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Information Systems, Drafting & Design, Engineering or a related field is desired but is not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Extensive knowledge of CAD networks, digital reprographic systems, database and document management applications, industry standards, and related equipment.

  • Working knowledge of transmission and generation facility detailed design drafting.

  • Working knowledge of basic electrical circuitry, schematics, wiring diagrams, and transmission and generation facility design and construction.

  • Ability to manage CAD and Drawing Control personnel.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.

Experience:

  • Eight (8) years of progressive drafting experience to include the following: electric utility industry experience, utility design, CAD systems operations/administration, supervisory and team building experience.

Other:

  • Ability and willingness to travel as required. (Must possess a valid driver’s license.)

DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • General knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC).

  • General knowledge of NERC/WECC drawing control compliance requirements.

  • General knowledge of transmission and generation facility design and construction.
