Brief Posting Description


This position leads the mine in the development, implementation and administration of a comprehensive safety plan that is focused on the creation of a total safety culture and sustainable excellence.


  • Provide technical expertise to the site in all aspects of occupational health and safety

  • Teach, coach and mentor the management team to ensure that safety is effectively managed as a line function.

  • Ensure compliance with Tri-State safety performance standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Lead and participate in internal/external safety audits

  • Manage the activities of the site safety staff.

  • Monitor and train employees in emergency preparedness, accident/incident investigation and planned inspections.

  • Act as primary liaison with Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) and State personnel.

Hiring Annual Wage: $112,710 to $140,887

Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

  • Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements.Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety.Must be familiar with, and comply with, all aspects of Corporate Policy C-54, Compliance.

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Excellent organizational, planning, communication/training and people skills, as well as the ability to effectively interact with the workforce and members of management.

  • Thorough working knowledge of all State and Federal Regulations, including MSHA

  • Basic computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office products.

  • CSP and/or CMSP certifications desirable.


  • Minimum Five (5) years' experience, preferably in mining.


  • Valid driver's license.

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is primarily required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend. Incumbent may be required to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is required to read, write, analyze and review data and prepare related reports, exercise judgment and work independently, assist with making decisions concerning maintenance planning, scheduling and alternatives, prepare presentations of information and work under pressure.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is exposed to moderate level of noise. May be exposed to working around heavy surface coal mining equipment and surface coal mining operations conditions. Majority of duties are performed indoors primarily at a desk.
