Minimum Requirements

Apprentice Water Chemical Technician (Craig) as of 11/07/2022

Minimum Requirements of the Job :

  1. Must have a satisfactory work record.

  2. Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Class R driver's license.

  3. Must successfully pass the Laboratory Technician Qualification Exam (LMS test) with a 65% or better score.

Tri-State may require you to demonstrate that you can perform the essential job functions.

Water Chemical Technician

Hiring Hourly Wage: $39.89 to $49.13

Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, attend, and operate the concentrators, demineralizers, side stream filters, chlorine systems, acid systems, Public Address systems, potable water, sewage treatment, zero discharge systems and auxiliary equipment associated with the above systems.

  • Monitor, test, and treat boiler and circulating water.

  • Monitor, sample, and analyze the pond wastewater discharge for compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)/CDPS Permit, including collecting and preparing samples for analysis.

  • Collect and sample coal and fuel oil.

  • Perform air ingress monitoring, instrument work and scrubber testing.

  • Maintain and operate the laboratory sample panel.

  • Complete logs, data sheets, files, and manuals relating to the duties performed.

  • Perform miscellaneous chemistry testing and treatment.

  • Respond to alarms and emergencies.

  • Safely operate other equipment, including but not limited to:

  • telephones

  • computers

  • respirators, air packs

  • two-way radios

  • cars and utility vehicles

  • forklifts

  • overhead cranes

  • safety equipment associated with handling chemicals

Qualifications:

Education and Training

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

  • Strong analytic, diagnostic direction, independent judgment, and ability to follow written procedures.

  • Expected to work under remote supervision by initiating work plans, reporting them to supervision, a Control Room Operator, or Shift Supervisor, and executing the plan, which is jointly developed.
