Brief Posting Description


Responsible for organizing and directing environmental regulatory compliance activities including monitoring, record keeping, and reporting of plant operations at Craig Station. Provides direction, follow-up and organization, necessary training and performance evaluations for Environmental Coordinators. Maintains current procedures and instructions for ensuring compliance with environmental regulatory related issues.

Environmental Supervisor Hiring Salary Range is: $102,000 - $128,000

Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

Job Requirements

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESManage all environmental regulatory compliance activities including stack emissions, fugitive emissions, waste minimization, chemical reporting requirements, air emission reporting requirements, and waste disposal requirements.

  • Perform compliance-related activities for all applicable elements of the Clean Air Act, Colorado air quality regulations, and stack monitoring Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC).

  • Maintain current procedures and instructions for ensuring compliance with environmental-related issues.

  • Coordinate with corporate environmental staff on requirements for environmental compliance and certification testing (Mercury and Air Toxics Standards [MATS], Particulate Matter Testing [PM], Relative Accuracy Test Audits [RATAs]).

  • Coordinate with corporate environmental staff on all permitting requirements for capital projects.

  • Coordinate with Craig Station Engineers, Senior Generation Support Analyst, and corporate environmental staff as necessary to ensure Generation Environmental Checklists are completed for capital and large O&M projects.

  • Maintain necessary environmental compliance records.

  • Provide guidance to Station HAZMAT personnel regarding spill response and cleanup.

  • Ensure necessary training is provided to Craig Station personnel to meet environmental regulatory compliance.

  • Provide direction, follow-up and organization for Environmental Coordinators.

  • Provide necessary training and performance evaluation for Environmental Coordinators.

  • Assist in the preparation and administration of the annual O&M and capital budgets.

  • Perform or assign Chemical Management Coordinator responsibilities.

  • Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements. Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety. Must be familiar with, and comply with, all aspects of Corporate Policy C-54, Compliance.

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS Education and Training:Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in an engineering discipline or applied science area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

  • Working knowledge of coal-fired electric generating units (EGUs), including emissions controls, fabric filter baghouses for particulate control, wet and dry flue gas desulphurization units for sulfur dioxide (SO2) control and also low-NOx burners, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), and Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) for NOx control.

  • Working knowledge of chemistry

  • Working knowledge of financial and economic analysis.

  • Working knowledge of instrumentation and controls maintenance and troubleshooting techniques specific to CEMS (Continuous Emission Monitoring System), COMS (Continuous Opacity Monitoring System), support instruments, and (environmental) data acquisition and handling (DAHS) systems.

  • Working knowledge of State of Colorado and Federal environmental regulations.

  • Working knowledge of related safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to interpret (primarily emissions) data for purposes of performance evaluation, forecasting, and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to organize and direct the work of others.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.

  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to interpret and administer labor agreements.

  • Ability to motivate others to achieve short-term goals and expectations.

  • Ability to create and implement plans to meet long-term goals and expectations.Experience:Eight (8) years of experience in environmental compliance management or process/project engineering. Other:Willingness to travel as required. (Must possess a valid driver's license.)

  • Must be able to work at 300 feet elevation on stack.

  • Must be able to work with atmospheric conditions.

  • Must be able to demonstrate that he/she can perform all of the essential functions of the position. DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS BS Engineering with Environmental Engineering emphasis preferred.

  • Working knowledge of process engineering preferred.

  • Coal-fired power plant experience preferred.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.
